DC Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Grandmother’s Abuse

Washington, D.C. – A chilling act of intrafamilial violence has reached a dire conclusion as a 23-year-old man from the nation’s capital received a 17-year prison sentence for sexually abusing his grandmother, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

The defendant, whose identity is kept confidential to protect the victim’s privacy, admitted to committing first-degree sexual abuse while armed and pleaded guilty on August 21, 2025. The plea deal was inked with an agreed-upon sentence of 17 years, which was accepted by the Honorable Danya A. Dayson and handed down in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

According to the government’s evidence, the defendant entered his grandmother’s bedroom on November 28, 2023, armed with a knife. He forced her into his own room, where he held her captive against her will for several hours, subjecting her to numerous acts of physical and sexual abuse.

Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in heralding the work of law enforcement officials who cracked the case. They praised the efforts of former Assistant U.S. Attorney Marco Crocetti and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathleen Houck, whose dedication to justice ensured a swift and thorough investigation.

The court also ordered a lifetime period of supervised release following the prison term, and the defendant will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. This severe punishment serves as a stark reminder of the impact of sexual abuse within families and the lengths law enforcement is willing to go to protect victims.

Editor’s Note: This case occurred on the date indicated but was not released due to a government shutdown. The press release was posted following the resumption of normal operations.
