Willie U. Mills, 31, of Madison, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 77 months in federal prison for possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine intended for distribution. On October 1, 2025, Madison police officers arrested Mills on an active probation warrant, and a subsequent search turned up a stash of illicit goods, including approximately 9 grams of fentanyl, 59 grams of methamphetamine, various pills, and multiple digital scales. The search also uncovered just over $9,400 in cash, solidifying the case against Mills as a major player in the local methamphetamine trade.
Mills pleaded guilty to the charge on February 18, 2026, and his sentencing hearing was held on May 6, 2026, before U.S. District Judge William M. Conley. The judge considered Mills’s extensive and varied criminal history, expressing concern that Mills had ‘escalated to worse and worse drugs.’ The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department, the Dane County Narcotics Task Force, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
The prosecution of Mills is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the influx of illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Ginsberg prosecuted the case, which marks a significant victory in the fight against methamphetamine trafficking in Wisconsin.
The sentence handed down to Mills serves as a warning to others involved in the illicit drug trade: law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to identify, investigate, and prosecute those responsible for spreading methamphetamine and other dangerous substances throughout the community. As the war on drugs continues, the conviction of Willie U. Mills stands as a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement officials in their pursuit of justice.
