Bobby Akins, a 55-year-old man from Dublin, Georgia, has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine in the Southern District of Georgia. Akins pleaded guilty to the charges and was also fined $1,000 and ordered to serve four years of supervised release. The sentence comes after an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration identified Akins as a source of illegal drug distribution in the Toombs County area.
Akins has a long and troubled history with the law, including multiple convictions on state charges for drug trafficking and a federal conviction in 2001 for transporting illegal aliens hidden in a tractor trailer. His latest run-in with the law began in October 2025, when he was arrested for violating probation on state charges of meth trafficking in Montgomery County.
The case against Akins is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the spread of illegal drugs and violent crime. U.S. Attorney Margaret E. “Meg” Heap praised the efforts of law enforcement, saying that her office will continue to pursue those who peddle poison in their neighborhoods and send them to prison.
Akins’ sentence serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar criminal activity. With no parole in the federal system, Akins will serve his full sentence before being released. The sentence is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in Southern Georgia, and law enforcement officials hope it will have a lasting impact on the community.
