A traffic stop in Charlotte, NC, led to the arrest of Bryan Hernandez-Rendon, 30, a Mexican alien, who is now facing federal drug and gun charges. On December 16, 2023, officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department conducted the stop for a traffic violation. During the stop, Hernandez-Rendon told the officers that he did not have a driver’s license and that there was a firearm in the vehicle.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered a KAHR Arms CW40 pistol and a clear bag containing 427.1 grams of methamphetamine from the passenger side floorboard. The investigation was led by the Homeland Security Task Force, which is a whole-of-government partnership dedicated to eliminating criminal cartels, foreign gangs, and transnational criminal organizations.
Hernandez-Rendon is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison for the drug charge, and a mandatory minimum term of five years consecutive to any other sentence imposed and a maximum of life in prison on the gun offense.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney William Wiseman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte. Hernandez-Rendon appeared in court and will remain in federal custody until his trial.
