Houma, LA – David Klimenko, a 29-year-old resident of Houma, Louisiana, has been charged with the heinous crime of distributing child pornography and failure to register as a convicted sex offender.
According to federal authorities, Klimenko was previously convicted of third-degree sex offense in Maryland for engaging in vaginal intercourse with a minor. He was required by law to register as a sex offender and complete registration forms upon relocation from one state to another. However, Klimenko is accused of moving from Maryland to Louisiana in 2016 without notifying law enforcement authorities.
Additionally, investigators discovered that Klimenko had used his Facebook account to distribute child pornography online, further exploiting vulnerable children and violating federal laws designed to protect minors from sexual exploitation.
Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans emphasized that the charges against Klimenko are merely accusations, and he must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
If convicted of both counts, Klimenko could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment, up to 40 years, along with a life term of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, who serves as the coordinator for Project Safe Childhood and chief of the Fraud Section, is handling the prosecution.
