ATHENS, GA – In a chilling turn of events, Antonio Meadows, 31, from Hull, Georgia, was today sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for possessing pipe bombs and violating domestic violence laws. United States Attorney Michael J. Moore announced the sentence imposed by the Honorable C. Ashley Royal in Athens.
Meadows entered a guilty plea on September 29, 2014, admitting to the felony charge. The saga began on December 24, 2013, when his girlfriend reported him to police for kidnapping and assaulting her at his home. An arrest warrant was issued for Meadows on charges of felony kidnapping.
Upon arrival at Meadows’ residence, officers discovered him attempting to dispose of something down the kitchen sink. A search warrant led them to a cloth bag containing three fully functional pipe bombs in the living room closet. Each bomb contained dangerous projectiles including pellets, bullets, and shards of PVC.
U.S. Attorney Moore emphasized the gravity of Meadows’ crimes, stating, ‘Pipe bombs are not toys; they are deadly devices that cannot be tolerated in our society.’
The investigation into Meadows was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Comer Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Graham A. Thorpe prosecuted the case for the government.
