Gregory Scott, 33, of Buffalo, NY, was hit with a 92-month federal prison sentence after being convicted of RICO conspiracy and conspiracy to possess and distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. The ruling, handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, marks another blow to the violent LRGP street gang that terrorized neighborhoods near the Broadway Market area.
Scott, a key accomplice to his cousin Dewayne Gray, helped run the gang’s drug operation, funneling crack cocaine through controlled territory while enforcing loyalty with fear. Prosecutors say the LRGP wasn’t just a drug ring—it was an armed criminal enterprise that relied on shootings and murders to protect its turf and maintain control.
Federal prosecutors Thomas S. Duszkiewicz and Joel L. Violanti laid out a damning case, detailing how Scott participated in the systematic distribution of crack as part of a broader pattern of racketeering. The gang’s activities stretched far beyond narcotics, with multiple acts of violence documented as part of the enterprise’s strategy to dominate the streets of Buffalo.
This sentencing is part of a sweeping crackdown that has already seen 19 defendants, including ringleader Dewayne Gray, convicted on federal charges. The takedown dismantled a significant portion of the LRGP’s operational structure, disrupting both its drug trafficking and violent enforcement tactics.
The investigation was led by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force under Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen, alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration (Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (Special Agent in Charge Ashan M. Benedict), and the Buffalo Police Department (Commissioner Daniel Derenda). Their joint efforts spanned years of surveillance, informant cooperation, and forensic evidence gathering.
Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. emphasized that convictions like Scott’s send a clear message: violent, organized street gangs will be pursued with every federal resource available. For the residents of Buffalo’s Broadway Market corridor, the sentencing offers a sliver of relief in a long battle against drug-fueled violence.
