WASHINTON – The gritty streets of D.C. witnessed a chilling chapter in political harassment today as Seth Jason, a Maryland man once employed by the Voice of America, faces a litany of charges for terrorizing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Jason, 33, from Edgewater, Maryland, was nabbed early this morning by U.S. Capitol Police and the Anne Arundel Police Department. He’s set to face his first judge in U.S. District Court later today.
According to court documents, Jason launched a terror campaign against Rep. Greene starting October 11, 2023. Over a span of fifteen months, he bombarded the Dalton and Rome District Offices with calls filled with death threats aimed at the congresswoman, her staff, and their families. His chilling modus operandi: using phone lines from Voice of America studios where he had worked as an employee.
“These charges are merely allegations,” the court reminds us, “and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.” But if convicted, Jason could face decades in prison, with penalties ranging up to ten years for influencing a federal official and five years for interstate communications with threats of kidnapping or injury.
The investigation was a joint effort between the U.S. Capitol Police and State Department Inspector General’s Office, with support from local law enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Travis Wolf and Special Assistant Brendan Horan will lead the prosecution.
As Jason’s grim saga unfolds in the nation’s capital, it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that political figures face daily and the lengths some will go to silence their critics.”
