Failure to Pay Child Support
In a shocking turn of events, Allison R. Konstanz, a 35-year-old Inver Grove Heights woman, has been sentenced to five years of probation for her failure to pay over $39,000 in child support. Konstanz, who was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 8, 2013, for failing to pay the past due amount, was ordered by the First Judicial Circuit Court, Bon Homme County, South Dakota, to pay $459.07 per month for her minor child, commencing April 1, 2001.
According to court documents, Konstanz had not made a child support payment since February of 2011, resulting in a total arrearage amount of $39,428.34. The case was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
Konstanz was sentenced on July 15, 2013, by U.S. District Court Judge Karen E. Schreier to five years of probation, a $100.00 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $39,033.55.
The defendant was released from custody, but will have to serve her probationary sentence, which will likely have a significant impact on her daily life. According to sources close to the case, Konstanz will have to regularly report to a probation officer and undergo random drug testing as part of her sentence.
