Terry L. Gantt, Wire Fraud and Aggravated Identity Theft, Cedar Rap…

Cedar Rapids resident Terry L. Gantt, age 28, has pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft in federal court.

Gantt admitted to using another individual’s identity to apply for credit in their name, using their social security number to commit the offense between November 2012 and February 2013.

The guilty plea was entered in federal court in Cedar Rapids, where Gantt faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 2 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 22 years’ imprisonment.

In addition to the prison time, Gantt may also be fined $500,000 and ordered to pay $200 in special assessments, as well as serve 4 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case against Gantt was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jacob Schunk.

Sentencing for Gantt will be set after a presentence report is prepared, and he will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal until then. The case file number is 14-CR-142-LRR, and court file information is available at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
