Cody Branson Barnes, Illegal Receipt of a Firearm by a Person Under…

It’s a stunning admission in the Eastern District of Oklahoma as CODY BRANSON BARNES, 22, from Ringling, has pleaded guilty to Illegal Receipt of a Firearm by a Person Under Felony Indictment or Information. The charge stems from Barnes’ alleged actions on January 31, 2014, when he was under indictment for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Case No. CF-13-37, in Jefferson County.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Muskogee announced the plea today, which came after an investigation by the Ardmore Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Barnes was indicted in July 2014 for willfully receiving a firearm that had crossed state lines.

Judge Kimberly E. West accepted the guilty plea and has ordered a presentence report to be completed. The punishment for this offense can reach up to five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. Barnes remains in custody awaiting sentencing under the watch of the United States Marshal Service.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Wilson represented the government in this case. The gritty details of Barnes’ illegal firearm possession have not only tarnished his reputation but also highlighted the ongoing battle against gun crimes in Oklahoma.

This conviction is a stark reminder that those who flout the law, even with prior felony charges, will face serious consequences. As the justice system moves forward, it leaves a wake of caution for potential offenders in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
