Dimitrous Jefferson Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Conspiracy

ST. CROIX, USVI – In a shocking turn of events, 27-year-old Dimitrous Jefferson of St. Croix has pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a charge that could land him behind bars for up to two decades.

The case took an ominous twist on May 4, 2016, when Jefferson, along with his co-defendant Ray Harris, were caught at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix. Both men were employed by Worldwide Flight Services and had packages wrapped in duct tape strapped to their legs. Upon triggering the metal detector, authorities discovered that both packages contained a staggering 992 grams of cocaine.

Jefferson confessed his involvement to law enforcement, claiming he was aiding Harris, who later pleaded guilty on February 17, 2017. The duo’s criminal enterprise has now reached its conclusion as Jefferson faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine that could exceed $1 million.

The sentencing hearing for Jefferson is scheduled for June 28, 2017, while Harris will face his own fate on June 22, 2017. The investigation leading to their arrests was conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Rhonda Williams-Henry handling the prosecution.

This is another blow to drug trafficking in the Virgin Islands, as authorities continue to clamp down on organized crime syndicates. Dimitrous Jefferson’s guilty plea serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of federal drug charges and theSeverity of punishment that awaits those who choose to engage in such criminal activities.
