Tampa, FL – A brutal federal prison sentence was handed down today as 45-year-old Samuel Friedman from Land O’ Lakes was sentenced to four years for orchestrating a multimillion-dollar Medicare fraud scheme.
Friedman, the owner of SKF Enterprises, LLC, targeted elderly Medicare beneficiaries with fraudulent telemedicine services. His underlings were trained to push costly medical equipment and unnecessary genetic testing on vulnerable seniors. Friedman then paid doctors to rubber-stamp these orders through bribes and kickbacks, all while falsely labeling it ‘telemedicine’.
This elaborate con netted Friedman nearly half a million dollars in ill-gotten gains, but the real damage was the $3.42 million he bilked from Medicare and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Friedman’s scheme was finally unraveled by a joint investigation involving the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the FBI, the VA, and the IRS.
After pleading guilty on June 16, 2020, Friedman now faces serious consequences for his greedy exploits. The court also ordered him to forfeit his property and bank accounts, totaling nearly $475,000, as well as pay restitution in the amount of $3.42 million.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen A. Fiore led the prosecution of this case, ensuring Friedman’s accountability for his criminal activities. As Friedman begins his sentence, it serves as a stark reminder that healthcare fraud is no laughing matter and will be met with severe penalties.
