ROMANO MCCAIN, the resident of Halfmoon, New York, was handed a 46-month sentence on Monday for his brazen acts involving firearms and threats to harm. The 49-year-old man’s criminal saga began with a dispute over a motorcycle vest payment, escalating into threats that would land him behind bars.
MCCAIN’S trail of terror started when he demanded $65 from a fellow motorcyclist in January 2020, sending explicit Facebook messages threatening violence. His behavior took an even darker turn later that month when he threatened the life of another man’s infant daughter on social media.
But it was on February 23, 2020, at ‘The Strip,’ a local motorsport haven, where McCain’s actions reached their most violent. After a fistfight, McCain retrieved a rifle and fired it towards a crowd, leaving law enforcement with little choice but to act swiftly.
During a raid on McCain’s girlfriend’s home in Latham, agents found a loaded .38 special revolver and ammunition, all of which McCain possessed illegally under federal law due to a prior domestic violence restraining order. His threats continued, both through text messages and social media.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the ATF and local police departments, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cyrus P.W. Rieck and Rachel Williams prosecuted the case with vigor. McCain’s sentence sends a clear message: threatening violence and possessing firearms will not be tolerated in Halfmoon or anywhere else.
