Lawrence Man Busted for 32 Kilos of Cocaine

BOSTON – A brazen cocaine dealer was taken down by federal authorities after a massive 32-kilo cocaine haul went south in a Woburn parking lot.

Victor Berroa Mercedes, 31, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was indicted today by a federal grand jury in Boston for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The indictment charges Berroa Mercedes with one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

According to the charging document, on May 4, 2024, Berroa Mercedes allegedly met with a cooperating source and accepted delivery of 32 kilograms of suspected cocaine in a Woburn parking lot. During his subsequent arrest, it is alleged that Berroa Mercedes dropped a plastic bag containing $32,800 in cash while attempting to flee from officers.

Berroa Mercedes will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date to face the charges, which carry sentences of up to 20 years in prison, at least three years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Mulcahy, with assistance from the Boston Police, Massachusetts State Police, and Illinois State Police. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Stephen Belleau, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division, made the announcement today.

The details contained in the charging document are allegations. The remaining defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
