San Francisco – The grimy truth hits home as Ruthia He and David Brody, the founder and CEO of Done Global Inc., and clinical president of Done Health P.C. respectively, face arrest for an alleged $100 million Adderall distribution scheme. These digital health execs are accused of orchestrating a fraudulent telemedicine operation to peddle Adderall and other stimulants over the internet.
He, arrested in Los Angeles, and Brody, nabbed in San Rafael, California, are set for initial appearances this afternoon. The feds claim they exploited the COVID-19 pandemic, using telemedicine as a front to fleece taxpayers and make easy money from illegal drug sales.
“These defendants disregarded medical ethics to maximize profits,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “The Justice Department won’t let them get away with preying on their patients for profit.” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas echoed the sentiment, “There’s no place for such fraud in our healthcare system.”
The duo allegedly conned drug seekers with tens of millions in social media ads and built an online platform that facilitated easy access to controlled substances. Court documents show they arranged over 40 million pills’ prescription, netting over $100 million.
Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri warned, “Corporate executives who put profit over patient health will be held accountable.” This is the Justice Department’s first such prosecution involving telemedicine and digital health companies.
The charges against He and Brody underscore the reach of cybercrime in healthcare, a chilling reminder that even the most sophisticated technology can be weaponized for malevolent ends.
