Burlington, Vermont – In a swift and decisive legal action against illegal immigration, Huan Lin, a 41-year-old Chinese citizen, has been sentenced to time served after being convicted of illegally entering the United States. The case was concluded on July 18, 2025, with a one-day bench trial before Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle.
Lin’s illegal entry into the U.S. was discovered on April 18, 2025, when she was spotted walking across a field near Holland, Vermont. She was apprehended after getting into a New York-registered minivan, which was flagged by agents of the United States Border Patrol. During her detention, Lin presented a Chinese passport with a Canadian visa and entry stamp, indicating that she had crossed into Canada seven days prior.
Upon thorough examination, agents found Lin’s possession of changes of clothing, electronics chargers, foreign currency, and what appeared to be Chinese identification and bank cards. It was confirmed that Lin lacked any legal status within the United States.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher praised the collaborative efforts of the United States Border Patrol and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services in this case. The prosecution team, led by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Flynn and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Lasher, secured the conviction. Lin was represented by Assistant Federal Public Defenders Charles N. Curlett, Jr., and Emily Kenyon.
This conviction is a significant victory for Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguarding American communities from violent crime. The initiative leverages the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to streamline efforts and allocate resources effectively.
