21 Lbs of Fentanyl: Utah Bust

⏱ 3 min read

West Valley City, UT – A 28-year-old Mexican national is facing serious federal time after the FBI’s Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force ripped through his apartment on February 23, 2026. Inside, agents found a staggering 9,811 grams – that’s over 21 pounds – of straight fentanyl powder. The bust is the latest sign Utah is a major highway for poison flowing north.

Ruben Flores Enriquez, allegedly in the country illegally, was taken into custody immediately. He’s now indicted on charges of possessing fentanyl, meth, and heroin with intent to distribute. The February raid also turned up 1,466 grams of fake fentanyl pills, 1,373 grams of meth, and 679 grams of heroin. Enough to wipe out a good chunk of the state.

Court papers paint a picture of a well-oiled drug operation. The FBI started investigating a local trafficking ring in February 2026, quickly zeroing in on Enriquez. He was initially charged by complaint on February 2, 2026, then formally indicted this week.

Enriquez is scheduled to appear in federal court in Salt Lake City, courtroom 8.4, at 1:00 p.m. on March 16, 2026. Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth A. Nielsen is handling the prosecution. Expect a lengthy sentence if convicted. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assisted in the investigation.
